Scholarships – 2017 Retreat

During our women’s Alpine Art Retreat 2017 we offer two scholarship opportunities– one to an emerging female artist, and a second to our beloved culinary coordinator; per the details below.

Emerging Artist Scholarship


  1. To a female, emerging artist under age of 30, based on aspirations, circumstances, and existing works, per a selection committee of the retreat’s tandem teachers. Application must be made by June 15, 2017 with selection made by June 30, 2017.
  2. Emerging Artist Scholarship is a 50% reduction of retreat fee for full week, plus the two additional free days.


The retreat’s founder, Elaine Frenett, has felt some of her greatest joy’s as a teacher in the mentoring of young, emerging artists. Yet the retreat tends to draw participants who are fairly established in their professional and personal lives. To be with such women is indeed fabulous and it made last year’s retreat remarkable. In fact, all the participants from the first annual Alpine Art Retreat declared the experience to be transformative, refreshing, inspiring and empowering.

Yet, a big part of the joy of discovery comes in diversity and also a joy of mentoring. Thus was born this scholarship. With the 50% reduction of the formal retreat, plus the two free added nights, the entire term of lodging, food and workshops comes to less than $90.00 a day to the scholarship winner.

The application process is simple. Send us an email explaining what you would find interesting about this retreat and include a brief bio of yourself. Be certain to include your name, phone number, email address, city and state. Finalists may be asked to provide samples of their existing work.

Scholarship application must be submitted before June 15, 2017. Selection will be made by the tandem teachers – Elaine Frenett and Jean Warren – with the winner announced June 30, 2017.

Culinary Coordinator Scholarship


  1. To a woman who will plan and execute a menu for eight women during the Alpine Art Retreat. The Culinary Coordinator does planning, prep, presentation, and we do the applauds. Application must be made by June 15, 2017 with selection made by June 30, 2017.
  2. The Culinary Coordinator receives full room and board at Lake Alpine Resort during the Alpine Art Retreat.


Food, as integral to the retreat as are the creative processes, quiet time, and fellowship.

At the Alpine Art Retreat the food is to be glorious, fresh, joyful and healthy; albeit with a tad of the decadent too. And by glorious we don’t mean complicated or fussy. Yet we would like to feel surprised.

With such wishes we are accepting applications for a Culinary Coordinator. This person must love food and be a good cook, yet need not be a professional. What is important is that this person is so well versed in their menu they will prepare all the meals for eight women with a spirit both joyful and relaxed.

In exchange for “making all the meals happen, with associated clean up, etc.” you receive a full week of room and board at the Lake Alpine Resort during the Alpine Art Retreat. Once our meals have been attended to, all other time during the week is your own. Get out to hike, paddle on the lake, fish, amble, or simply read on the deck. Or nap. Yet you are also welcome to be an onlooker to our workshops; to observe and participate. The choice is yours.

Right now our menu is open. All we know is that we want everyone at the retreat to depart feeling food was each day a wonderful discovery that they can’t help but talk about returning home. As such we seek a cook with the vision to make that happen. Breakfast might be like a B&B in New Zealand, where most items are set out as self serve and the cook then serves up eggs to order. Anyhow, we could babble on and on. The important thing is we see this as a creative collaboration and are eager for ideas. It’s a creative retreat where food should have a healthy spa feel yet embrace the rustic setting.
