Late July, we began receiving applications for the “Emerging Artist” Scholarship we offer yearly at the Women’s Journaling Alpine Retreat. Jean and I spent time perusing the intent and experience behind the words – finding one young lady that particularly stood out!
She’d been sporadically journaling for more than fourteen years. Her yearning to find “my voice” combining words, images and other materials on journal pages cooks directly into what Jean and I find ourselves stirring into our pages. Schooled with a studio art degree (yeah!! another painter!!), enhanced with graphic design and spiced up with journalist/public affairs experience, Rebecca is rich with visual art journaling potential. Not only was her creative lust honed for this retreat, but she was conscious of how physical and spiritual awareness can stir the creative and emotional pot from which we pull artistic magic. We knew that this young spirit, mature beyond her years was the perfect candidate.
When she mentioned that she couldn’t find anything particularly fascinating about herself to add to this post (“art, yoga, meditation, self reflection” she noted – does she know what I was doing at her age? does she realize how unique and gifted she already is?) – we knew we could add “humble” to the list of prized characteristics that make up our 2013 Emerging Artist Scholarship Recipient! Allow me to introduce: Rebecca Lamont.
And we can’t wait to meet her in person . . . just three weeks now . . . and counting!!
A young lady with the future ahead of her and the possibilities are endless. She has done so much already! She is amazing.
